Roll of Honour

By Philip Thornborow

Ebenezer Wesleyan chapel in Plymouth was built in 1817, and was renovated to become Plymouth Methodist Central Hall in 1939.

Two men from the chapel died together on HMS Monmouth when it sank with all hands at the Battle of Coronel (1st November 1914). Four men were officers, a high proportion for a Wesleyan chapel. Whilst most of the fallen were young, one would have been too old to be conscripted. One survived the war only to die 9 days after.
