Methodism in Norton Canes, Staffordshire
Norton Canes is a former coal mining community in Staffordshire. At one time there were two Primitive Methodist chapels there, the large chapel ( called the Cathedral) in Chapel Street in the centre of the village, and Norton East Chapel, in Norton East Road. This was a typical simple “shoe-box” chapel and stood at the corner with Lakeside Drive.
There was also the Trinity Wesleyan Tin Tabernacle chapel, which stood at the corner of Brownhills Road and Poplar Street and has now been replaced by a beautiful brick chapel near to the old Trinity chapel.
The attached documents provide a history of Methodism in Norton Canes published in the late 1960’s.
